It is an honor that you have taken time to want to learn about me. I have to say that I am a very simple person who loves the Lord and has been privileged to share a gift that He has given me.

I was born in the nation’s capitol, Washington, DC to two of the greatest parents in the world, Rodney and Evelyn Gainous. I call them the greatest because… well… they are. They have always loved and supported me and my younger sister in everything that we have done and are still doing. A child could not have asked for better parents.

Although I was born in DC, I actually grew up in Capitol Heights, Maryland which is in the suburbs of Prince George’s County which boarders Washington, DC. Yes I loved my childhood. It was full of love, excitement, adventure, learning and growing.

At an early age my mother always made sure that every Sunday we were in church. She would always get me and my sister up and make us go (Notice I said “make us”). We didn’t have an option if we wanted to go or not like some kids do today. To tell the truth, church for me was not that exciting or interesting but since I had to go, I went and when it was over I was free to do what I wanted afterwards. That was how I looked at it. My mother got what she wanted and I got what I wanted.

Later when I got older I did what most young adults do and I stopped going to church. You see my mother wasn’t telling me what to do because I wasn’t living in my parent’s house. I could make my own decisions even though they were the wrong ones.

At one point my parents were attending two different churches but they decided that they wanted to attend the same church and worship together so they visited different churches. There was pastor who just moved into the house across the street from them and one day he invited them to service at his church and within a few weeks, they became members.

My parents invited me and my wife to go with them so out of respect, I went but I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I think deep down inside I had a yearning for something but really didn’t know what it was and that’s why I wasn’t reluctant to go when I got the invitation. Well we went and Pastor John K. Jenkins, Sr. of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden preached an amazing sermon that touched me like nothing in my entire life. I felt as if he was speaking directly to me and no one else. It was as if Pastor Jenkins was following me around all week and he knew what I was going through.

After visiting for the second week, I decided to give my life to Christ. I boldly walked to the front of the church and surrendered to God. I stopped fighting Him and I let go. It was such a relief and it felt as if there was such a load lifted.

After that I got involved in the ministry by working with the Audio/Visual ministry. I worked in the duplication department and my responsibilities included filling orders that members had placed for cassette and VHS tapes. I would go in every week, look at the orders and start duplicating the cassettes and VHS tapes. This was before CD’s and DVD’s were used. :-)

I also participated in other ministries such as the Men’s Ministry, Feed the Hungry, Brother’s in Discipleship, and Project Manhood. I really enjoyed all of these ministries but I would not have ever imagined I would be doing what I am doing today. I would have never thought that I would have my own ministry that was birthed out of something God has placed in me. I never would have thought that God would use me the way He is using me right now.

I started writing not to minister to people or to encourage people but to make money. I had my own selfish reasons for doing what I am doing. I had plans but the Almighty changed them. Yes I had other intentions but God took my intentions and turned them around for His glory and I’m so glad He did.

Since I started writing these encouraging words, so many people have been blessed and it is truly a testament of how good God is because a lot of times when I sit down to write, my mind is blank but some how, some way, words form in my head and I start to type and before you know it, a message is written and someone is commenting and saying “it was just what I needed to hear” or how the message was “right on time”.

Only God can do something like that, not me and that’s why I give Him all the glory and honor for this ministry. As much as I would like to say that I am a profound and deep writer, everything that I do is truly inspired by God. And if God can use someone like me who has no formal training and is still a work in progress but is able to minister to the masses, imagine what He can do for YOU!

There is no limit when it comes to God’s awesome power.

God has not only blessed me with a great talent of writing and encouraging others, He has also blessed me with a wonderful family. I have a beautiful wife Pamela who is my support and three awesome children; Alexandra, Sydney and Rodney, III. They keep me busy with all of their extracurricular activities but they are my motivation to do great things.

My awesome family also includes my grandmother and a lot of awesome aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews and some great friends I call family. A person couldn’t ask for better loved ones!
